“Leaders become great not because of their power but because of their ability to empower others”

-John C. Maxwell

Hello Triad Region!

I hope the start of your academic year is going well! I know the start of the year is always stressful, but it will get better. I also hope that many of you are starting to meet with your local FBLA chapters and planning leadership and recruitment activities! These are very important to keep in mind as the deadline for membership approaches. FBLA is always fun with more people! I would love to “shoutout” a few chapters that have reached out to me: Wingate Andrews High School, Cedar Ridge High School, Page High School, and Margarett Pollard Middle School. Thank you for reaching out and providing amazing opportunities for your students to be in FBLA!

I have some important news for everyone. This year, NC-FBLA is holding a Statewide Community Service Day on February 24, 2018. I encourage everyone to put this date on their calendars because it will be for a good cause, and the region with the most participation will receive preferred seating at the North Carolina State Leadership Conference! On February 24, 2018, everyone go out and serve your local communities! Whether you pick up trash on the side of the road, pack food for people in need, or other activities that help out, it’s all for a great cause.

One other thing to keep in mind is to start looking at competitive events for regional/state competitions and decide what you want to compete in! It’s never too early to start preparing! Regional Competitive Events Conference is coming up! Mark the date: December 9th!

Finally, I have some advice for your academic year.

Seniors: I know this year seems very stressful right now, and you may experience some intense anxiety at times. I know all of you will get into great colleges, keep working hard! Share your essays with others and get input! Don’t stop working hard or get senioritis, you got it!

Juniors: This year also may seem very scary! With the ACT and SAT coming up, you are almost near the end of high school! My advice for you is to start studying for the ACT, SAT, or both as early as you can! The amount of time you put into preparing shows in your scores. When studying, think of a dream school you would love to go to, and use that as your motivation!

Sophomores/Freshmen/Middle schoolers: Explore! Look for things you are interested in and take advantage of opportunities! This is a time to find out who you are, what you enjoy, and to lead others. Please take risks as well. I’ve seen too many dreams die because of doubt including my own. There’s no harm in trying!

I hope you all are having an amazing year and I can’t wait to do great things with you!!
